The 2011 Eugene A. Hargrove, M.D. Mental Health Research Award Young Investigators

The Psychiatric Foundation of North Carolina invites you to submit nominations for the 2011 Eugene A. Hargrove, M.D. Award.

Dr. Hargrove, who died in 1978, was Director of the North Carolina State Department of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services from 1958 until 1973.  This annual award is in commemoration of Dr. Hargrove’s contributions to mental health care in North Carolina and of his recognition and support of research in the public mental health system.  NCPA presents this award to an individual who has been recognized by colleagues for exceptional contributions in the field of Mental Health Research.

This year’s award will focus on nominations from early career researchers (those who finished training within the past 10 years).  Fields included in this research are:
·Developmental disabilities
·Substance abuse
·Child and adult mental health.

A selection committee appointed by the Psychiatric Foundation of North Carolina will choose this year’s recipient from those nominated.  The winning candidate will be honored at NCPA’s Awards Dinner at the Annual Meeting on September 17 in Asheville.  We hope the winner will be able to attend.  The recipient will receive a framed medal, a monetary award and have his/her name inscribed on the perpetual Hargrove Award plaque.
