NC Medicaid Issues Waiver Update
As noted in the winter issue of the NCPA print newsletter published this month, the NC public mental health system is moving to a statewide, Medicaid capitated, managed care carveout. NC DHHS (the Departments of Medical Assistance and MHDDSAS) issued a special implementation bulletin #94 late last week that outlines key information for psychiatrists and others in the system. The special implementation memorandum can be found at: http://www.ncdhhs.gov/mhddsas/implementationupdates/update94/special_IU94_2-12.pdf.
The Medicaid special bulletin on Waivers can be found on the NCPA website on our Medicaid News page. The page includes the link to ALL Medicaid bulletins, including the February special bulletin.
NCPA has been engaged in numerous meetings with DHHS officials who want psychiatrists to continue to participate in the Medicaid program and are interested in hearing psychiatrists’ specific problems and issues related to the implementation of this new Medicaid system. Please email Robin Huffman with your feedback at rhuffman@ncpsychiatry.org.

Medicaid Alert - Attention: All Providers Medicaid Alert - Attention: All Providers - Medicaid Recipient Appeal Process (Due Process) - Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment Seminar
A Medicaid Recipient Prior Approval and Appeal Processes and Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) seminar is scheduled for the month of October, 2011. Please note this seminar is a repeat of the seminars offered throughout 2011. If a provider has not attended one of these seminars, attendance at this seminar is highly recommended.
Seminars are intended to address Medicaid recipient prior approval and appeal (due process) processes/procedures when a Medicaid service is denied, reduced or terminated. The seminar will also focus on an overview of EPSDT-Medicaid for Children. Billing will not be addressed during the presentation.
The seminar is scheduled at the location listed below. This session will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will end at 4:00 p.m. Providers are encouraged to arrive by 8:45 a.m. to complete registration. Lunch will not be provided at the seminar. Because meeting room temperatures vary, dressing in layers is strongly advised. Due to limited seating, registration is limited to two staff members per office. Unregistered providers are welcome to attend if space is available.
Providers may register for the Medicaid Recipient Prior Approval and Appeal Processes and EPSDT seminars online. Pre-registration is required. Providers will receive a registration confirmation outlining the training material(s) each provider should bring to the seminar. Please bring the training slides found at the websites below to the seminar.
